Brokenness or developing an inner condition called POOR IN SPIRIT

To start this study, I want to ask a question to consider: Why cannot human nature not be perfected by the perfect Son of God, Jesus Christ without sufferings? (Heb 5:8)

Because of the demonic pride that is carried through the DNA of Adam. Did Jesus have this pride? NO! But he did have to overcome the propensity (a strong, natural tendency or inclination to behave in a particular way)!
Since he carried all of the humanity and nature of Adam to the cross- he had to win the battle against SIN. Sin is the adamic and satanic nature to live for oneself. He won this battle with the words, “Not my will, but thine be done” Luke 22:41-44.
Now, what is the path to overcoming this self- centered tendency of Adam? Brokenness! When a person allows God to break them- this then results in them acquiring poverty of spirit or a spirit of brokenness. Without brokenness, this person is not usable vessel in the hands of God.
Poor in spirit
Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. (Matt 5:3)
Poor
  • reduced to beggary, begging, asking alms

  • destitute of wealth, influence, position, honour

    a.  lowly, afflicted, destitute of the Christian virtues and eternal riches

    b.  helpless, powerless to accomplish an end

    c.  poor, needy·

  • lacking in anything

There were two words for poor back then. One meant that you were extremely needy, but you could still do something for yourself.
But, this word for poor meant you could do absolutely nothing for yourself. All that you could do was to beg!!
You were completely dependent on others helping you. This word basically means that you are bankrupt!!!
When a person comes to the truth that they have nothing. Their spirit is empty of anything good- now God supernaturally comes in with His  Kingdom to fill, possess and empower.  2 Cor 12:7-10.
The lame take the prey Isaiah 33:23? What substance do I release into the world? Daniel 5:27tekel’—you have been weighed on the scales and found deficient.
The world has its beauty pageants and heaven has its most beautiful substances also.
God is love! Love never seeks its own. There is no desire ever for God’s pure love to seek something for itself and therefore it is totally pure! Mankind has always been called to be a vessel for the love of God. When I am weak, then I am strong.
Matthew 4:17 From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say, Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.
Matthew 7:21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.
Matthew 10:7And as ye go, preach, saying, The kingdom of heaven is at hand.
Matthew 11:11Verily I say unto you, Among them that are born of women there hath not risen a greater than John the Baptist: notwithstanding he that is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.
Matthew 13:33Another parable spake he unto them; The kingdom of heaven is like unto leaven, which a woman took, and hid in three measures of meal, till the whole was leavened.·
Matthew 18:3And said, Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven.·
Matthew 18:4Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is greatest in the kingdom of heaven.
Matthew 19:14But Jesus said, Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me: for of such is the kingdom of heaven.
Matthew 23:13But woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye shut up the kingdom of heaven against men: for ye neither go in yourselves, neither suffer ye them that are entering to go in.
To be considered as POOR in spirit means that on the inside- I can do nothing. I am extremely needy.
Maybe on the outer man- I am very rich, very strong, extremely intelligent and capable. One is the outer man and the other is the inner man! Maybe my outer man is very wealthy, but my inner man is full of pride, self-sufficiency, independence and high and lifted up, that it causes me to despise others that I am above and more knowledgeable and I look down at them. JOB 42.
Psalm 34:6This poor man cried, and the Lord heard him, and saved him out of all his troubles.
Psalm 35:10All my bones shall say, Lord, who is like unto thee, which deliverest the poor from him that is too strong for him, yea, the poor and the needy from him that spoileth him?
Psalm 40:17But I am poor and needy; yet the Lord thinketh upon me: thou art my help and my deliverer; make no tarrying, O my God.
Psalm 69:29But I am poor and sorrowful: let thy salvation, O God, set me up on high.
Psalm 70:5But I am poor and needy: make haste unto me, O God: thou art my help and my deliverer; O Lord, make no tarrying.
Psalm 86:1Bow down thine ear, O Lord, hear me: for I am poor and needy.
Psalm 109:16Because that he remembered not to shew mercy, but persecuted the poor and needy man, that he might even slay the broken in heart.
Psalm 109:22For I am poor and needy, and my heart is wounded within me.Pslm 113:7,8He raiseth up the poor out of the dust, and lifteth the needy out of the dunghill; That he may set him with princes, even with the princes of his people.
Proverbs 10:15The rich man's wealth is his strong city: the destruction of the poor is their poverty.
Proverbs 13:8The ransom of a man's life are his riches: but the poor heareth not rebuke.
Proverbs 14:20The poor is hated even of his own neighbour: but the rich hath many friends.
Proverbs 19:4Wealth maketh many friends; but the poor is separated from his neighbour.
Proverbs 19:7All the brethren of the poor do hate him: how much more do his friends go far from him? he pursueth them with words, yet they are wanting to him.
Proverbs 22:7 The rich ruleth over the poor, and the borrower is servant to the lender.
2 Chron 26:15-1615 And he made in Jerusalem engines, invented by cunning men, to be on the towers and upon the bulwarks, to shoot arrows and great stones withal. And his name spread far abroad; for he was marvellously helped, till he was strong.16 But when he was strong, his heart was lifted up to his destruction: for he transgressed against the Lord his God, and went into the temple of the Lord to burn incense upon the altar of incense.15 In Jerusalem he made machines of war invented by skillful men to be put on the towers and on the [corner] battlements for the purpose of shooting arrows and large stones.
And his fame spread far, for he was marvelously helped until he was strong.16 But when Uzziah became strong, he became so proud [of himself and his accomplishments] that he acted corruptly, and he was unfaithful and sinned against the Lord his God, for he went [a]into the temple of the Lord to burn incense on the altar of incense.
God creates an inner brokenness within a person in order to use them as a pure vessel to carry the substance of pure love. David said that a broken and crushed heart are not despised in the eyes of God ( Psalm 51:17) The life and power of God comes into the spirit of a person, but then the person has to be broken so that God’s substance ( life, love and power) can come out of that person.
Without the inner breakings of the human soul- the life and substance of God will be blocked from flowing out.
Signs of a great need of brokenness in a person’s life
1.  Your thoughts and your desires are very important to you
2.  Your opinion has a great value in your mind (Opinion -  An opinion is a judgment, viewpoint, or belief about a person, thing, or topic that is based on personal feelings, experiences, or thoughts rather than on absolute, provable facts. Opinions are subjective and can differ between individuals, whereas facts are objective and true for everyone)
3.    An immediate negative reaction when someone else does not appreciate your knowledge in a certain area ( 1 Cor 13)( Isaiah 14:12-15)
4.    A deep inner frustration when someone does not understand what you are trying to say ( 1 Cor 13)
5.    You struggle understanding why others do not see your importance , but as the same time you are blocked to seeing the importance of every member of the Body.
6. This person is very reluctant to mention openly to others that they are wrong ( 1 John 1:9)(Luke 7:30)-  But the Pharisees and experts in religious law rejected God’s plan for them, for they had refused John’s baptism.
7. This person can go years without one time openly humbling themselves and taking the blame for anything. When was the last time that you took the blame and openly humbled yourself before others? ( 2 Chron 7:14)
The most innocent Person that has ever lived chose to take the blame for all of the human race**** Have you ever asked forgiveness when you knew that you were innocent? ( Romans 14:13-15)
8. This one’s thoughts are often about what is the right or correct way to do something. Their mind is almost in a prison of steel bars and they are forced to think is this wrong or right?
They always notice what is wrong in a person or a thing but they seldom see what is wrong in themselves.  (Jesus and Judas) Jesus covered all of Judas’s sinful heart.
9. This unbroken person will create frustration in many others. Other people cannot communicate to them because they carry an atmosphere that is threatening or stand-offish.
10. I am different than others. A broken man feels his need for the assistance of others. He will value their input. He knows that although he might have very many answers; there are still millions more that he needs. (Ex: a man with a strong healthy arm and a man with a broken elbow. When my arm is healthy- I can be totally independent, but when my arm is broken- I need others to help me.
11. A strong unbroken man feels that he can do anything by himself. He has  a problem- but, he will work it out. He has a need- he will think of an answer to his problem. He feels although life can be rough at times, he is stronger than the problems of life.
12. A unbroken man has never really seen himself in the true light of God. He needs the two essential visions ( heavenly life book) Isaiah 6:1-5. Daniel 10:5-8,11:Job 42:5-6:  Moses- Heb 12:21: John 1:12-21: Paul: Peter.
Results of seeing the Lord
a.    No confidence in one’s own ability
b.   A hatred of thinking one thought that would exalt self
c.    A deep trust and expectation in the power and strength of God
d.   A new understanding that God will do what I cannot do
e.    A deep cleansing of hidden areas where pride has controlled one’s thinking
f.      A new found appreciation of the mercy of God
g.    A deep breaking and therefore humbling of oneself
h.   A tremendous fear of God in all of His power, strength and extreme purity
i.       A greater revelation of the supremacy and rulership of the Great I AM in his universe,
14. Seeing Him in true LIGHT always releases a sense of extreme NEED in the individuals,
Some Biblical examples are:

Paul  ( a strong mighty leader, especially in the area of religion)
1 Cor 2:3,4And I was with you in weakness, and in fear, and in much trembling. And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man's wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power:

David ( a very strong man in every area)
Psalm 39:4-6Lord, make me to know mine end, and the measure of my days, what it is: that I may know how frail I am.Behold, thou hast made my days as an handbreadth; and mine age is as nothing before thee: verily every man at his best state is altogether vanity. Selah.Surely every man walketh in a vain shew: surely they are disquieted in vain: he heapeth up riches, and knoweth not who shall gather them.
Moses at 40- mighty in speech, so strong that he could kill an Egyptian in seconds, learned in every single way of the Egyptians, trained as royalty ,knowing within himself that he could lead 2 million slaves out of the power of the Pharaoh-
Read Acts 7:21-25 When he was 80- No ability to speak, very little strength left, his only occupation was a shepherd for 40 yrs, The Egyptians despised shepherds, probably lost most of what he learned the first 40 years and knowing within himself that he could never lead 2 million people out of the hand of Pharaoh and so he says, send Aaron! What happened to Moses to prepare him as a vessel for God to use mightily in His service? Brokenness!!!
Broken people see their extreme lack of power, strength and ability and they learn to trust on the God of the impossible.
These same broken people have no FEAR of others knowing their weaknesses. In fact, they would rather glory in everything that makes them weak than think about their strengths.
( 2 Cor 12:7-10) Unbroken people will carry a deep frustration if others do not see their ability, and if they feel that they do not have what it takes in any area. If a project is failing- it concerns them deeply and they will probably feel angry inside.
God meets us at our point of need. This is why these people usually do not have encounters with God. They are too strong and they live in deception and they actually believe they are way more spiritual than they truly are. Rev 3:14-21 they actually believe that they have need of nothing.
Another main characteristic of people that are in great need of brokenness is they live in non - reality. Their world consists of things they have learned mentally and therefore, these things have not been worked inside of them. They oftentimes are extremely intelligent people.
Their great need is BROKENNESS!!
15. These individuals are NOT good co-workers. They are usually excellent workers – if they are alone, by themselves or if they are over others, like the boss.
16. Since the perfect LIFE of GOD dwells within the spirit of a born again believer- unbroken vessels usually release the LIFE of Adam and not the life of God. Their unbroken spirit is blocking Christ’s life from flowing out of them
So, often their leadings are from their mind or emotions. Their strength usually  comes from their body or intellectual power. Their power usually comes out of their soul and therefore, they will have converts that are making commitments to God based on doctrine, feelings or other soulish or bodily experiences. The fruit of these conversions are very little!
Signs of a Person in extreme need of Brokenness  Part  2
16. They are not thankful when God allows negative things to happen to them, especially in the area of need ( finances, open doors, circumstances etc.)
Unbroken people will usually fear or grumble or murmur in their heart or religiously ask for prayer. This is a major part of being in non- reality. You Look spiritual to hide your tremendous weakneses and fears.
17. An unbroken man does not rejoice in sufferings for Christ’s sake. ( Rom 8:18, 2 Cor 1:6, Phil 3:10, Col. 1:24, 2 Tim 4:2, Heb 2:10, James 5:10, 1 Pet 2:19, 4:13, Heb 13:13, 1 Pet 4:1,2)18.
18. An unbroken man does not walk in the fear of the Lord and therefore, he has many other hidden fears. When someone who walks in the fear of God is in temptation, this fear of God will stop him from sinning. ( 1 Pet 1:1`8).
An unbroken man is bound to sin ( the wishes of his own soul). He feels that it is very important that the wishes of his soul are fulfilled. ( He must have his own needs met. He also desires that ALL of the needs of his family are met.
What he thinks of his needs always has  high priority. Doing the will of our Father is not a high priority to him. Since he does not focus on the deep inner needs, he instead focuses on other things in his life and family. These things are what this man thinks are necessary to fulfill him. This unbroken man will not make doing God’s will the highest priority. ( Matt 6:33, Luke 14:25-33, Matthew 7:22-24)
This unbroken person does not delight in the fear of God and therefore, his family will suffer.
Isaiah 11:1-3 amp. Then a Shoot (the Messiah) will spring from the stock of Jesse [David’s father], And a Branch from his roots will bear fruit. And the Spirit of the Lord will rest on Him—
  • The Spirit of wisdom and understanding,

  • The Spirit of counsel and strength,

  • The Spirit of knowledge and of the [reverential and obedient] fear of the Lord—And He will delight in the fear of the Lord,

  • And He will not judge by what His eyes see,

  • Nor make decisions by what His ears hear;

Psalm 112:19. An unbroken person will cover his hardness and lack of brokenness by being religious and saying spiritual things. This person can say all of the right things, but they will not allow themselves to be accountable and to have others speak into their life.
Since they fear being accountable- they subconsciously put blame on others. You will seldom hear these individuals openly and remorsefully confessing their faults and their sins to people in public. But, if confessing their sin will benefit them and the way others see them- then these people will do this in order to gain an advantage!!
A hidden motive rooted in selfishness.
20. Broken people try to lose their image because they understand that the Lord will only reveal His Image!! These people desperately desire to walk in the mind ( heart attitude) of the Risen Christ!
Phil 2:5 Unbroken people will not want to be around people that do not make them feel good about themselves. Their feelings are needing much breakings.
We need brokenness in 4 main areas:

  1. 1. Feelings .

  2. 2. Heart,

  3. 3. will  and

  4. 4. mind -

Read John 12:21-25 AS we lose our soulish life, then our true life can come forth out from us.
